Eligibility is based on several factors, including:
Income: Your household income must be at or below a certain limit set by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). These limits vary based on family size.
Family Status: You must meet the definition of a family as defined by HUD.
Criminal Background: All adult household members will undergo a criminal background check.
Eviction History: We will check for any history of eviction from federally subsidized housing.
Citizenship/Immigration Status: All household members must be U.S. citizens or have eligible immigration status.
The length of the waiting list varies depending on the program and the number of applicants. It is not possible to give an exact timeframe. We encourage you to keep your contact information updated with our office so we can reach you when your name comes to the top of the list.
You can check your status on the waiting list by calling our office. You will need to provide your full name and date of birth. We cannot give out information about your status to anyone else.
Public Housing: This program provides affordable housing in specific residential communities owned and managed by the Monticello Housing Authority. Your rent is based on a percentage of your income.
Housing Choice Voucher Program (Section 8): This program provides a rental subsidy that allows you to rent a unit from a private landlord in the community. You are responsible for finding a suitable rental unit that meets program requirements. The MHA pays a portion of your rent directly to the landlord, and you pay the remaining balance.
